Research Interests:
I use the hydrothermal diamond-anvil cell to study the PVTX properties of aqueous
solutions, speciation of H2O in hydrous silicate melts (coupled with FTIR), and
determination of the phase relations of hydrous silicate melts at simultaneous high
pressure and temperature conditions. Recently, I have also involved in studying the
elastic properties of minerals to high P-T conditions using GHz ultrasonic interferometer
and resonance ultrasonic spectroscopy.

Chen-Lin Chou was born in Jiangsu Province, China, and grew up in Taiwan. He graduated from National Taiwan University (Department of Geology) in 1965, and received his Ph.D. in geochemistry from University of Pittsburgh in 1971. Between 1971 and 1980 he did research and teaching at University of California, Los Angeles; California State University, Fullerton; University of Toronto, Canada; and McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Since 1980, he has been working at Illinois State Geological Survey, mostly on geochemistry and coal geology of the Illinois Basin. His other research interests includes: meteorites, elemental and isotopic geochemistry, and ore deposits geochemsitry. In 1993-94, he took a one-year leave from ISGS to work as a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Applied Geology, National Central University, Chungli, Taiwan. He holds appointments at three universities in mainland China: Guest Professor at the Beijing Graduate School of China University of Mining and Technology, Beijing; Taiyuan University of Science and Technology; and Adjunct Professor at China University of Geosciences, Beijing. He is a GSA Fellow.

I just began my Ph.D. study in the University of Oslo half year ago. At present, main task for me is to take courses to meet the basic requirements for this University.
